Dr. Godber is a character from The Perils of Penelope. He is a criminal who'll stop at nothing to get his hands on the formula of a revolutionary new rocket fuel.

Biography[]

The Parisian Café[]

Sir Jeremy meets Lady Penelope in a Parisian Café where she narrowly avoids drinking poisoned Pernod. As he flees, Doctor Godber leaves behind a matchbook emblazoned with a heraldic crest.

The Heraldic Archive[]

Goober disguises himself as an clerk and locks Lady Penelope and Sir Jeremy in the Heraldic archive. He then turns on the gas, before making his escape.

Aboard the Anderbad Express[]

Having thrown attendant Alfred from the Monotrain, Doctor Goober takes over the role as Attendant. He is caught by Lady Penelope looking for her suit case in the baggage compartment, but manages to leave by telling her he have taken over as attendant for the second half of the journey.

Tunnel Hideout[]

Godber used this control room (with the aid of his accomplice Roache) to stop the Monotrain and kidnap Lady Penelope and Sir Jeremy Hodge. He had also previously kidnapped Professor Borender the same way, a few day earlier. his aim was to force Sir Jeremy and Borender to reveal the secret process of their new rocket fuel. In a desperate attempt to get them to talk, he ties Lady Penelope to a ladder and lowers her into the path of the Anderbad Express.

Gunfight[]

As the Anderbad Express approaches, the Tracy brothers (Virgil and Gordon) discover Godber's hideout. A gunfight ensures, and Godber deliberately shoots Roache and the control panel in the sub-station so the train cannot be stopped! Virgil shoots the ropes which holds Penelope in place and she falls out of the path of the train just as it comes hurtling through the tunnel.

  • Godber makes a cameo appearance in Terror in New York City, where he can be seen among the audience at the Ned Cook Show.
  • The inside of Dr Godber's personalized matchbook bears the logo of the Bellevue Hotel in San Francisco.
