Manual descending equipment is carried aboard Thunderbird 2, and is used by International Rescue whenever a descent is needed down mineshafts, or other such confined spaces.
The equipment consists of a compressed-air rifle that can fire steel rods into structures. These then support ropes, to which an abseil harness is attached. The person is then lowered down to the required depth.
The equipment is very compact, and can be carried on the back of a hoverbike.
Equipment in Use[]
In Cry Wolf, Thunderbirds 1 and 2 travel to Australia's Northern Territory. Virgil and Alan Tracy utilize the specialized harnesses to lower themselves - one at a time - down the shaft of the disused Charity Springs Tin Mine, and reach the trapped brothers Bob and Tony Williams. The Hood had earlier thrown in and detonated a grenade, burying the entrance...it's now a race against time, before all of the mine finally collapses!
