Brains suspects that the Red Arrow 1 was sabotaged and provides Red Arrow 2's pilot (Goddard) with a diversion detector, before he returns to base.
The Hood has planted a Homing Device on a British Telecom Tower, so that when Red Arrow 2 makes its test flight it is drawn off course. Goddard ejects, but the plane crashes into the tower, trapping two operatives, Jim and Stan, in the control cabin.
